Responsibilities:
Lead the design and development of Closures plastic trim parts and assemblies such as Side Door Rocker Trims, Glass Run Channels, Hood Trims, Liftgate Trims, and Spoilers, taking full ownership from concept through to production.
Engineer parts at both component and system levels with a focus on optimizing performance, weight, durability, packaging, and cost, while maintaining meticulous attention to design detail.
Collaborate closely with internal teams including Vehicle Safety, NVH, Dynamics, Durability, Manufacturing, and Design Studio, as well as external suppliers, to ensure seamless system integration and design quality.
Use CAE results and analysis tools to iterate and refine designs, and create and execute testing plans to validate design concepts and ensure achievement of performance targets.
Work with manufacturing teams to align part designs with efficient manufacturing processes and high-quality production standards, including techniques like injection molding and bonding.
Coordinate with purchasing, supplier quality, tooling, and stamping teams, and engage with suppliers to manage tool buy-offs and secondary component changes
Develop 3D CAD models using tools such as CATIA V5/V6, interpret Class A surface data, and apply GD&T to define critical tolerances and ensure fit, finish, and function.
Participate in hands-on prototype and production builds, including assembling your own parts when needed, to ensure robust integration and production readiness.
Manage the full design release process, including engineering change management, bill of materials updates, and project tracking to meet all program milestones.
Travel domestically and internationally as required for supplier reviews, validation testing, and build support, while maintaining clear communication across all interfaces.
